No Constables in the Streets Soon.

George Stephenson, collier, of Wombwell was charged with being drunk and assaulting police constable Waterlow, in Park Street, Wombwell on Sunday morning.

According to Police constable Waterlow the defendant was like a madman, and repeatedly kicked him.

Police constable Kilner also gave evidence.

Mr Superintendent Kane said if they went on that way they would soon not have a constable in the streets. There were now three constables off duty at the present time from assaults.

Fined five shillings and costs for being drunk, and for the assault he was fined 20 shillings and costs.
